The luminescence process of luminescent bacteria is a physiological metabolic process within the bacterial body, which is highly susceptible to external conditions. When toxic and harmful substances come into contact with luminescent bacteria, the toxic substances in the water sample will affect the metabolism of luminescent bacteria, and the decrease in luminescence intensity is proportional to the concentration of toxic substances in the sample. Compared with traditional biological detection methods such as fish, algae, plankton, etc., the luminescent bacteria method is easy to operate, fast, and sensitive, and can determine the biological toxicity of drinking water, surface water, and seawater.
